Coordinator, Midwives for Peace
“I want to hear women’s experiences and express their feelings about their lives and what they believe. I believe I have been very successful with this approach because they see that I am part of the community and they see that I am one of them, and I have been exposed to forms of violence as a woman just like them”
Aisha is a renowned professional consultant, lecturer, and community nurse and midwife with a Master’s Degree in social science. She has over 30 years of diverse experience in a wide array of social work, including cancer awareness campaigns, education, combating early marriages, family planning, prenatal and postnatal nutrition, family nutrition, and awareness raising campaigns for youth.
Aisha has developed plans and policies for the reform of the Palestinian health sector and new methodologies to change the traditional misconceptions of women’s health.
She’s worked to inform the legislative council on various laws and legislations that require profound reform relevant to women’s rights, women’s civic and political participation, inheritance, and custody in line with international laws and standards.
“MADRE’s work is valued and much needed to help raise women’s awareness, strengthen their capacities, and help them find their way to active participation within their communities. I believe women can become effective agents of change if given the needed skills.”
Midwives for Peace is a grassroots group of Palestinian and Israeli midwives working together to ensure that childbirth is a joyous and safe experience for women despite the armed conflict that surrounds them.
