Do You Know a Kid Who Loves to Draw?

By now you may have read my email from earlier this week about the brutal violence impacting young girls in Haiti – the most vulnerable of the country's earthquake survivors.

But with your support, MADRE and our Haitian sister organization KOFAVIV are protecting these girls and helping them heal. Whenever I visit the KOFAVIV Center, I'm always overwhelmed by the bravery and strength these young girls demonstrate. What they've already endured in their short lives is more than any child should ever face. But with your support, these courageous girls are slowly rebuilding their lives.

I've also seen the strong bonds that the girls build with each other at the KOFAVIV Center. Though their shared experience is one of pain, their budding friendships are filled with hope.

Have you been inspired by the children in your own life? I know I have. My sons remind me every day of what is best in all of us. That's why we came up with this opportunity to connect all of the amazing kids in our lives, despite the distance that may separate them.

One thing the girls love to do is draw pictures for the new friends they've made at the KOFAVIV Center. I was so moved by their expression of hope and friendship through these drawings that I wanted to offer it up to the children we know.

We'll be collecting children's drawings to share with the girls at the KOFAVIV Center. We'll let them know that our children stand with them as they rebuild their lives – that together, they can start building the world we all want to live in.

If you know a child who would like to participate, please send us their drawing by July 12 using one of the following methods:

  • Mail the drawing to MADRE's office: 121 W. 27th Street, Suite 301, New York, NY 10001

  • Email us a photo of the drawing to

I know the girls at KOFAVIV will love these drawings!

P.S. - With your support, we are working to meet the needs of these young girls, providing food, shelter and counseling. And through our workshops, these brave girls are building confidence and learning alternatives to the sexual exploitation they face in the camps. Click here to learn more.
