As the death toll continues to rise after a devastating explosion in Beirut, Lebanon yesterday, MADRE mourns the immense loss and sends our solidarity to all affected by this catastrophe.
Upon learning of the explosion, we reached out immediately to our local partners and are actively assessing the situation together.
This disaster comes at a time where communities in Lebanon are facing multiple, severe threats, from the COVID-19 pandemic to a major economic crisis. MADRE has been working with our grassroots partners to provide emergency relief and to support local communities, especially to meet the needs of Syrian refugee women and families who struggle to access aid and basic services.
Our hearts are with all those facing this crisis, and we remain committed to sustaining the work of our local partners in this difficult time.
