Follow-up Report to the UN Human Rights Committee

The Autonomous Women’s Movement (MAM), MADRE and the International Women’s Human Rights Clinic at the City University of New York School of Law (IWHR) prepared this report to assist the Human Rights Committee in its review of Nicaragua’s compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The report provided supplementary information on Nicaragua regarding its compliance with Concluding Observations 12, 13, 17, and 19 of the Human Rights Committee issued during its Ninety-fourth session held in Geneva from 13-31 October 2008, in response to the third periodic report of Nicaragua. The report demonstrated that despite concerns and recommended measures by the Committee, violence against women and widespread impunity for perpetrators of these crimes remained a grave concern in Nicaragua.
