MADRE congratulates Mirna Cunningham, who was part of MADRE's creation in 1983 and remains our partner today. On September 23, Mirna received an honoris causa doctorate from the Autonomous National University of Mexico. Mirna is the founder of the Center for Indigenous Peoples' Autonomy and Development in Nicaragua. Other honorees in today's ceremony included linguist and activist Noam Chomsky and writer and activist Nawal El Saadawi, both longtime friends of MADRE.
