Iraqi Protesters Call for an End to Corrupt, Sectarian Government

"It is a corrupt government. It is an oppressive government." - Yanar Mohammed speaks with Democracy Now about the current uprising in Iraq and the change that people are demanding.

Iraqi protesters are challenging more than corruption and a lack of jobs and public services — they are taking a stand against the sectarian, divisive politics that have created these threats. In response, government forces have violently retaliated against protesters, killing over 300 people and injuring more than 1500.
