Senior Director of External Affairs
Muadi Mukenge works at MADRE as the Senior Director of External Affairs. Previously, Muadi worked at Ipas, a global reproductive rights organization operating in 16 countries across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, where, from 2018 to January 2023, she served as their Chief of Development and External Relations overseeing a team that raised funds from governments, foundations, and individuals. Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mukenge has partnered extensively with women’s rights and social justice organizations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
From 2016 to mid 2018, she worked at Emory University and CDC managing CDC programs in maternal and infant HIV and OVCs in 18 African countries. Mukenge also led Africa programs at Global Fund for Women for 12 years, overseeing grantmaking, special initiatives, and resource mobilization and growing its work most significantly in rural communities, conflict regions, and Francophone Africa. She made over 100 grants per year and leveraged support for women-led peace efforts in the Great Lakes and Mano River regions, and refugee communities across Africa. She began her international career at the Pacific Institute for Women’s Health, where she managed communications training and a grant-making program for African women’s NGOs and oversaw research and evaluation activities for SRHR initiatives. For many years, Mukenge participated in the African Feminist Forum and other women's funds networks, Africa Grantmakers Affinity Group, and donor collaboratives focused on Francophone Africa, Congo and international human rights.
