Travel to

with MADRE

October 17 - 25, 2018

On the occasion of MADRE’s 35th Anniversary, we invite you to join Executive Director Yifat Susskind on an unforgettable journey to Kenya, where Indigenous women are defending human rights and innovating sustainable solutions to climate change.

You’ll forge powerful connections with MADRE’s inspiring grassroots partners and their communities, and you’ll take part in a vital exchange, when local leaders, activists and women climate defenders from different communities come together to share ideas and strategies. See firsthand how grassroots women are advancing the rights of their communities and building a healthy, resilient future for our planet.

From the capital city of Nairobi, to the vibrant rural communities of our partners, to a breathtaking safari through the Maasai Mara, this will be a voyage to remember. We hope you'll join us!

Trip Highlights

Our journey will begin in the vibrant, bustling city of Nairobi, where you’ll be immersed in the history and beauty of this culturally rich country and learn more about the political, economic and environmental challenges MADRE’s partners and their communities face.

From Nairobi, we’ll travel with activist and environmentalist Lucy Mulenkei, who leads MADRE’s long-term Kenyan partner organization, the Indigenous Information Network (IIN), to the rural pastoralist communities of our partners in Transmara. There, MADRE and IIN equip and train Indigenous women to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change and empower their activism, political participation and leadership. You’ll see just how Indigenous women are much more than victims of our climate crisis: they are sources of solutions.

And you’ll experience how MADRE supports women’s collaboration and movement building when we take part in an exchange of women farmers from different Indigenous communities, who will convene to share strategies and build new alliances together. Witness the transformation that is possible when women work together to leverage their expertise and traditional knowledge to sustain their farms and families. And see how, with MADRE’s long-term partnership, they are building their political power to influence local and global policy decisions that affect their livelihoods and the future of our planet.

We’ll conclude our trip with a full immersion into Kenya’s natural beauty with a safari through the Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Kenya’s most stunning landscapes and home to Africa’s most abundant wildlife. See why travelers from around the world visit this magical bucket-list destination.
