MADRE - Global women's rights

"We need to change shelter policy in Iraq. If we have legal status, we can help people."

The Iraqi government does not allow local organizations run women’s shelters.

You Reach Women and Girls Others Can’t

MADRE and our local partners can help women when and where others can’t. But we need your help!

MADRE partners with grassroots women on the frontlines of war and disaster. Together, we meet urgent needs and create lasting change.

We Partner for Social Change

MADRE partners with grassroots women's groups facing war, disaster and their aftermath. Together, we meet urgent needs and build women's capacity to create positive social change.

We Advocate for Human Rights

MADRE applies the tools of human rights advocacy to create social change with our partners. We make international law accountable to the people it's meant to serve.

Earlier this year and with your support, Wangki Tangni launched their very own radio station. It's a vital lifeline of support to women who face violence alone in isolated communities.

Bombs are exploding over Mosul. Women and families who’ve lived under ISIS control for more than two years are now taking cover from the ravages of this battle, or risking snipers and landmines to flee the city.

As a girl, Lucy wasn't allowed to play on the banks of the rushing Ngoboro River. Today, a drought has reduced that river to a trickle, and families struggle to get the water they need.

With you and with MADRE, our grassroots partners protect and provide for the most vulnerable. They build new skills and grow as community leaders. And they bring their demands to policymakers and advocate for rights, resources and results.

Where We Work

Our partners and projects span the globe: Nicaragua, Guatemala, Haiti, Colombia, Kenya, Palestine, Syria and Iraq.

Together, we save lives, rebuild communities and secure women's rights worldwide.
