Yanar Mohammed, Director of the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq

Yanar Mohammed is the Director and a co-founder of the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq (OWFI), a national women’s organization dedicated to rebuilding Iraq on the basis of secular democracy and human rights for all. She is one of the most prominent and inspiring women's rights campaigners in Iraq, and passionately advocates on behalf of Iraqi women, the LGBTIQ community and other marginalized and at-risk Iraqis.

Charo Mina-Rojas, National Coordinator of Proceso de Comunidades Negras in Colombia

Charo Mina-Rojas is a human rights defender and the National Coordinator of Advocacy and Outreach for the Black Communities’ Process (Proceso de Comunidades Negras- PCN), a collective of Colombian rights organizations that organize together to promote Afro-Colombian leadership and to protect their territorial and cultural rights. Charo has traveled throughout Colombia and the world to raise awareness about human rights violations in her country and to hold the line against deforestation, mining and other resource exploitation that worsens pollution and climate change.

Poets wielding vintage typewriters write original, personalized poetry for guests to take home from MADRE's 35th Anniversary Celebration. 

Taína Asili y la Banda Rebelde

Taína Asili is a Puerto Rican activist, singer, songwriter and bandleader. She combines powerful vocals with an energetic fusion of Afro-Latin, reggae and rock. Her music offers a sound that spans continents, exuding strength of Spirit, inspiring audiences to dance to the rhythm of rebellion.
