This Mother’s Day, celebrate women who refuse to settle for an unjust world.

Make a gift to MADRE in honor of a woman who refuses to settle—your mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, friend, or any special woman you know—and we will send a card featuring a beautiful photo (see right) directly to the person you are honoring. Or, if you prefer, we’ll send the card to you, so that you can give the gift in person. Your gift of $25, $75, $250, $500, or more to MADRE will help to meet urgent needs and promote long-term social change for thousands of mothers around the world. If you can give a gift of $250 or more, MADRE will send a custom card to your honoree, featuring a personal picture of your choosing (instead of MADRE’s photo).

Your gift will support programs that:

Combat Violence against Women by supporting:

• A network of battered women’s shelters in Iraq, where violence against women has skyrocketed since the US invasion. Your gift will help women rebuild their lives by providing a safe haven and trauma counseling.
• Human rights workshops in Kenya that teach women about laws they can use to protect themselves from marital rape, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and other forms of violence.

Respond Effectively to Disasters:

Your support will help us send emergency relief to communities devastated by natural disasters, with a special commitment to ensuring that women—who bear primary responsibility for caring for injured and traumatized families—receive the support they need. We must act now to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.

Fight Hunger and Malnutrition among Indigenous Families by:

• Providing seeds and agricultural training for communities on the Coco River in Nicaragua. The program protects sustainable local farming and enables mothers to provide for their families and play leadership roles in their community.
• Providing displaced elderly women in Peru—most of whom have lost their entire families due to decades of war and forced migration—a meaningful new connection to community and family by providing homes, food, and an opportunity to share their stories and cultural histories with local youth.

Your support enables MADRE to demand human rights for women and their families through our work with community-based women’s groups all over the world—girls and women of all ages, mothers and non-mothers—who are demanding justice for themselves and their communities and making their strong voices heard everywhere.
