For nearly 25 years, MADRE has been fighting for health, education, food sovereignty, and long-term solutions to the crises of women around the world. These videos feature some of the relationships and results that MADRE has created with our sister organizations.

A Conversation with Haifa Zangana, Iraqi Activist and Author

MADRE Communications Director Yifat Susskind had the opportunity to speak with Haifa Zangana, an Iraqi activist and author. In this video, they discuss the long history of the Iraqi women's rights movement and the impact of the US occupation. Haifa Zangana's book, City of Widows, is published by Seven Stories Press.

MADRE Sister Organizations in Colombia

The following pictures taken in April 2008 demonstrate the crucial and innovative work that MADRE's sister organizations in Colombia—Taller de Vida and LIMPAL—are doing.

Climate Change Policy and Human Rights Panel

Recently, MADRE organized an event to highlight the connections between women's human rights and climate change - a linkage that has been sorely under-recognized in international negotiations. This audio slideshow presents clips from that event, featuring the commentary of Yifat Susskind (MADRE), Sonia Smallacombe (UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues), and Annette Williams (Sustainable South Bronx). For those who couldn't be with us, these brief samples show how climate change impacts communities across the planet and how women are mobilizing to combat these threats.

Umoja Audio Slideshow

In November 2007, MADRE's Executive Director Vivian Stromberg traveled to the Kenyan village of Umoja, which has banned violence against women. This video shows the results of MADRE's partnership with the Umoja Uaso Women's Group and how - in the areas of food security, education, human rights, and more - MADRE supports the efforts of the women of Umoja to build a better future.

A Visual Introduction to MADRE's Work

All around us, we see evidence that the world has reached a tipping point in its ability to absorb the harmful impacts of unsustainable resource use, economic greed, and militarism. But the solutions we need are already available, and women around the world are taking action.

MADRE was born out of a belief that together we can make a difference. Click here to find out how you can help.
