Zenab for Women in Development is a community-based women's organization in Sudan that aims to improve the lives of Sudanese women and advocate for their rights. Zenab focuses on preventing the spread of HIV/AIDs, eliminating the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM), and responding to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Zenab also works to promote girls' education, especially among poor communities, and to provide capacity-building workshops for women leaders.
Zenab plays a leadership role in combating HIV/AIDs in Sudan, offering programs and workshops to educate women and girls about the connection between gender-based violence and the spread of HIV/AIDS. Zenab works at the national level to conduct trainings on HIV/AIDS and to distribute information on HIV/AIDS in refugee camps. Zenab also works to end FGM by educating women and girls about the negative health effects of the practice.
In response to the crisis in Darfur, Zenab has partnered with MADRE to deliver containers of blankets, sheets, clothes, shoes, and hospital supplies to refugee camps. Zenab also focuses on stopping gender-based violence within refugee camps by increasing security measures and providing therapy for traumatized children orphaned by the conflict.
Zenab works with a local network of 10 NGOs.
