"'Rather than throw myself from a window,' the mother said, 'I should raise those beautiful girls.'"
Those are the final words of this wrenching article
on Syria that you may have seen in Tuesday's New York Times
. They are the words of a mother whose four youngest daughters were killed by shelling. She has three reasons to keep on living: her three surviving daughters.
Reading this article, I was filled with grief, but also with gratitude — for you and every MADRE member. Because unlike too many world leaders, you have not forgotten about our sisters in Syria. As a MADRE member, you've made sure that women and families have medical care, trauma counseling and the training needed to document rape as a war crime.
Thank you for refusing to be indifferent to injustice and suffering.
