Take action for Honduran activists! From Grassroots International:
Honduran resistance leader and former Independent presidential candidate Carlos Reyes received a death threat on his cell phone last night. More than 40 activists, journalists, environmentalists, feminists and gay rights activists have been murdered since last year's coup. Please take action now to help protect Carlos and other Honduran activists whose lives may be in danger.
Call the U.S. State Department, Honduras desk, Gabriela Zambrano at 202-647-3482 or Chris Webster at 202-647-4087; or the U.S. Ambassador in Tegucigalpa at 011-504-236-9320 ext #4268. Demand an investigation into the source of this call, and that action be taken against whoever made the call.
While some may deny that the U.S. has anything to do with the current human rights crisis in Honduras, the reality is that the U.S. continues to provide financial support and political backing to the regime of Pepe Lobo and also continues to train the Honduran military at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, formerly known as the School of the Americas. U.S. officials need to investigate and respond to grave ongoing human rights abuses in Honduras.
Please make your phone call right away, and share this information with as many people as you can.
