MADRE Condemns Atrocious Attack against Young Woman in Afghanistan
Posted on: Tuesday, December 4, 2012
Keywords: Afghanistan, Combating Violence Against Women
MADRE condemns the recent heinous act of violence carried out against Afghan teenager Gul Meena and the persistent violence targeted against women and girls in that country.
Gul Meena barely escaped with her life when her family targeted her for "honor" killing, as the New York Times reported just days ago.
MADRE’s Afghan Women’s Survival Fund enables women who are threatened with violence to escape to safety. Our work and the work of our partners and colleagues is more crucial than ever, as women across the region are being increasingly targeted for standing up and demanding their human rights, attending school, and simply living their lives.
Meena’s story is just one of the many brutal examples of senseless tragedy that has become all too common.
Along with our partners, MADRE will continue to demand justice for women and their families around the globe.
