Join us at a CodePink Mother's Day Weekend Picnic for Peace in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, May 8th. CodePink: Women for Peace is organizing a powerful women's gathering to bring the message of peace and disarmament to the annual military exhibition fair that will be installed on the National Mall.
When:
Saturday, May 8, 2010
12pm - 5pm EST
Where:
National Mall
Washington, D.C.
The day will start with a pot-luck picnic, and move into a program of music, poetry, talks from women in war-torn countries and updates from women working to improve conditions here at home. There will also be children’s crafts, a hug-In booth, and a dance for peace.
The Mothers Day gathering will be in the spirit of Julia Ward Howe. Best known for writing the Battle Hymn of the Republic and her stance against slavery, Julia was horrified by the carnage and suffering during the Civil War. She used her poetic gift to pen a proclamation against war, a proclamation that birthed Mother’s Day.
