Founding Director, INFORM Human Rights Documentation Centre
Sunila Abeysekera is a Sri Lankan activist for women’s rights and human rights and founding Director of INFORM Human Rights Documentation Centre. Her focus is on minority, human, and sexuality-related rights with a special focus on human rights in conflict situations. She is one of five recipients of the UN Human Rights Prize in 1998, marking the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Ms. Abeysekera is also a member of the Women and Media Collective Sri Lanka and the Women’s Support Group Sri Lanka; she is co Chair of UNDP Global Civil Society Organizations Committee and Board Chair of the Urgent Action Fund for Women's Human Rights. She is a founding member of SANGAT, the South Asian Feminist Network, and of the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development. She works as a trainer in conflict transformation, peace-building, gender, and human rights, in Sri Lanka and internationally.
