Executive Secretary for Racial Justice, United Methodist Women's Division
Carol Barton currently co-staffs the Racial Justice Program, Women’s Division, General Board of Global Ministries at the United Methodist Church with Elmira Nazombe. She has been the coordinator of the Women’s International Coalition for Economic Justice (WICEJ) since 2000, comprised of organizations from all regions of the globe, focused on gender, race, class and macro-economic policy at the international level. WICEJ has been actively involved in numerous UN conferences, including the Commission on the Status of Women, “Beijing+10”, Financing for Development Conference, and the World Conference Against Racism. She helped plan two international Feminist Dialogues prior to the 2004 and 2005 World Social Forums, as well as a Women’s Orientation at the 2005 WSF. Carol is editor of ‘Seeking Accountability on Women’s Human Rights: Women Debate the Millennium Development Goals’ and author of a UNDP monograph, ‘Women’s Movements and Gender Perspectives on the Millennium Development Goals’.
