Women Farmers Unite in Sudan

Sudan 2We just received a quick update from Fatima Ahmed, the President of Zenab for Women in Development, our sister organization in Sudan.

Fatima told us that Zenab for Women in Development recently hosted a major gathering of the Women Farmers Union. It was attended by 500 women farmers from all over the Gadaref State of Sudan.

Sudan 3Our partners worked hard to coordinate the invitations, travel and food for the 500 women. The women met outside under the shelter of a large tent. As a result of the meeting, five women from each local county were selected as representatives of the larger group to serve on the Executive Committee of the Women Farmers Union as it plans for the upcoming growing season.
