Week of Twitter Action on Afghanistan

Posted on: Monday, July 2, 2012

Keywords: Afghanistan, Middle East, Women's Health, Economic Justice, Combating Violence Against Women

From July 2 to July 8, MADRE will be partnering with CODEPINK on a week of Twitter Action around the Second International Afghanistan Recovery and Reconstruction Conference in Tokyo.

It’s been a decade since the initial Tokyo Recovery and Reconstruction Conference in January 2002, where over 60 countries pledged billions of US dollars in development assistance to Afghanistan.

And yet, ten years and billions of dollars later, the same problems still plague the Afghan people. Poverty and violence still run rampant—and nothing the “international organizations” have tried is working.

That’s why MADRE and CODEPINK are calling on you to amplify this message: It’s time to listen to Afghan women, not distant policymakers behind closed doors . They know what is needed to rebuild from the destruction left in the wake of war—and you can help demand their voices be heard.

Please join us in our call for resources and rights for Afghan women. And make sure to follow us on Twitter @madrespeaks and @codepink.
