Video: Pro-Democracy Activists in Iraq Under Threat

Recently, Yanar Mohammed, director of MADRE's Iraqi sister organization, the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq (OWFI) alerted us that a young activist named Alaa Nabil had been kidnapped, detained and tortured in an attempt to silence him. Immediately, MADRE Executive Director Yifat Susskind worked with Yanar to author a letter to the Iraqi government, demanding action to protect the safety of Iraqi citizens.

We also had a conversation with Yanar via Skype about the threats faced by Alaa and other Iraqi protesters. You can watch a video clip of our conversation with Yanar below:
