MADRE’s partner organization, the Organization of Women’s Freedom in Iraq (OWFI), appeared on Al Jazeera this week to talk about their continuing protests.

OWFI is speaking out against the sexual assault and violence against women at pro-democracy demonstrations in Baghdad's Tahrir Square. On June 10, eight women leading protests were sexually assaulted and beaten. MADRE joined women from around the world in condemning the attacks on the peaceful protestors. OWFI’s Executive Director Yanar Mohammed appeared at the forefront of the demonstration, commenting to Al Jazeera that this is “an era of women, they cannot lock us in our houses anymore.”
