Tents distributed for use as health clinics and shelters in Haiti

The Myriam Merlet, Anne Marie Coriolan and Magali Marcelin Feminist International Camp is currently working to distribute tents in Haiti. The tents will be used as both health clinics and shelters.

In addition to a resource distribution center, the Camp has a health clinic for women and children and a communications center for media coverage including live internet transmissions in Spanish, English and French (Creole) by the Feminist International Radio Endeavor (FIRE).

From MADRE partner Maria Suarez of FIRE in her broadcast last week: "Tents are urgently needed here because they are no longer available in the Dominican Republic. We have to bring them to Haiti from elsewhere."

MADRE is supporting the transport and distribution of tents and other urgently needed supplies, including medicine, clothing and hygiene products.

Already, some of the tents the camp delivered were set up to function as a health clinic for the delivery of babies and for the care of women and children. Other tents are being used as shelter for 40 elderly people who were forced to evacuate their nursing home prior to earthquake (due to unsafe living conditions) and had been living out in the open when the quake hit.
