Shipment of Sewing and Medical Supplies for Nicaragua

Posted on: Thursday, December 17, 2009

Keywords: Nicaragua, Latin America & Caribbean, Economic Justice, Women's Health, Helping Hands

Packed boxes that went to NicaraguaFabric, sewing machines, needles and thread donated by MADRE members filled over 40 boxes for a shipment to MADRE's partner, the Wangki Tangni Women's Sewing Collective in Nicaragua. Because of the amazing support from donors, we were also able to include much needed items like wheelchairs, eyeglasses, medication, children's clothing, school supplies and more in the shipment for both Wangki Tangni and CADPI.

The campaign for sewing supplies has been a great success so far. The materials we collected will enable the Sewing Collective to offer sewing classes and provide resources for women in the community. The clothes that the women make with the materials will not only be used for clothes for their families, but also help them earn a small income selling their products at local markets and craft fairs.

Thank you to everyone who donated or volunteered their time to help bring basic supplies to women and children who need them most in Nicaragua.
