Send Emergency Aid to Women and Families in Guatemala

Emergency in Guatemala

Sandra Gonzalez, our partner from the Women Workers' Committee near Guatemala City, called me earlier today. She sounded exhausted. Last Thursday, a volcano erupted in Guatemala, spewing rocks and lava and blanketing the capital in black ash. Just two days later, tropical storm Agatha slammed into Guatemala's Pacific Coast, causing widespread flooding and mudslides.

As many as 125 people have died, 90 people are reported missing and over 150,000 have been evacuated from their homes. Sandra has been working non-stop to respond to the tremendous need.

Families and whole communities are devastated by this disaster. But you can help.

In the communities where Sandra works, 1,700 families have been forced out of their homes and are now without water and electricity. Sandra called to ask for our support. People need clean water, non-perishable food items, medicines and sheets and blankets. And with your help, we can these supplies to families who have lost everything in this disaster.

During the next few weeks, there's a grave danger that contaminated water will cause outbreaks of cholera and other diseases, pushing the death toll even higher. You can help the Women Workers' Committee prevent needless death. They are coordinating vaccinations for women and children to prevent the spread of contagious diseases at this critical time.
