1) MADRE-Sponsored Event: Strategize with Rural Women

Grassroots women are the world’s foremost rural development experts. But their knowledge is often ignored by policymakers. Come hear from them as they strategize, build solutions and make their voices heard.

Please join MADRE on Thursday, March 1, 2012 to hear rural women tell their stories and share their strategies.

2) Struggling to Survive: Sexual Violence and Exploitation of Women and Girls in Post-Disaster Haiti

Please join MADRE, our partner organization KOFAVIV and the NYU School of Law’s Global Justice Clinic/Center for Human Rights and Global Justice for a panel discussion about the sexual violence and exploitation of women and girls in post-earthquake Haiti.

The event will feature grassroots advocates from Haiti and legal experts in the areas of human rights advocacy and gender-based violence. Panelists will discuss MADRE's report, “Struggling to Survive: Sexual Exploitation of Displaced Women and Girls in Port au Prince, Haiti," on sexual violence and the exploitation of women and girls in Haiti.

3) Rural Women and the Right to Water

Access to clean, safe water is a basic human right. But around the world, it is women and girls who are responsible for providing water to households. That division of labor makes water a critical women's human rights concern.

Join MADRE for a panel discussion on the movement to secure clean water rights for all. Expert panelists will discuss the connections between water and economic justice, women's human rights, environmental sustainability and peace.

4) Intersections of Violence Against Women and Militarism

Join MADRE and The Center for Women’s Global Leadership for a panel discussion on the links between the perpetuation of militarism and its consequences for the safety and security of all.

The panel will focus on key issues of relevance, including political violence against women, sexual violence during and post-conflict, and the roles of women’s, peace, and human rights movements in challenging the links between violence against women and militarism.
