Afghan Women's Survival FundWomen in Afghanistan are being targeted, attacked, and murdered for demanding their human rights. Women police officers, journalists, teachers, parliamentarians, local government workers, and many others have been assassinated by ultra-conservatives for daring to speak out for women’s rights.

The Safe Birth Project

Jessica AldermanMADRE’s newest sister organization in Palestine, Midwives for Peace, is working to train and equip new midwives to help women safely deliver their children in Palestine. Midwives for Peace is a grassroots group of both Palestinian and Israeli midwives reaching out across borders – despite political or religious rivalries – to come together to help women safely through the universal experience of childbirth.

Filtering Water, Saving Lives

Young girl drinking water - c. Anthony AsaelMADRE is working with Wangki Tangni to provide a clean drinking supply to Indigenous communities on the North Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. During the summer of 2009, we tested three HydroWell Village water filtration systems and the results were solid. The systems produced drink enhanced with electrolytes - dissolved minerals that can help people recover from dehydration.
