Your Gift of Strength, Hope and Healing

(c) Hubbie Hussein al-Haji"My young son and I arrived in a refugee camp in Kenya after fleeing famine in Somalia. At the camp, I didn't eat so that he could have more, but he still grew weaker. Womankind Kenya saved him. They gave us food and medicine, and told us about the support from MADRE. We still struggle, but as long as we are alive, with your help, I and other mothers can hope. And that sustains us." -Sahra

Dear Friend,
Will you and I ever really know what life is like for mothers like Sahra?

To never know whether their child will live another day… Or to live under the constant cloud of war, famine and illness... The answer is mostly likely, thankfully, no.

But we do know what it means to have compassion—to feel a shared humanity with every woman struggling to survive amidst violence, abuse and deprivation.

And for nearly 30 years—in Haiti, Iraq, Gaza, Cuba, Afghanistan and wherever women are under attack—MADRE has been there, offering the tools, resources and support needed to stand for human rights. And that means you’ve been there too.

You have sustained women around the world with your generosity. Without you, we wouldn't be able to support women like Sahra.

I’m honored to have met many of the women you’ve helped. I’ve sat with them, shared meals and conversation, and listened to their struggles. But I’ve also rejoiced with them in the triumphs that you’ve made possible.
But we still need you.
  • We need your help to provide urgent reproductive health care and trauma counseling to Syrian women and girl refugees, displaced by war.
  • Young Haitian girls orphaned by the earthquake need your help to survive. Our partners are giving them food, emotional and medical support, and schooling, and shielding them from sexual exploitation. You can help these girls build a bright future.
  • And in Nicaragua, Sudan and beyond, your help will give women farmers the tools they need to keep their children from going hungry.
Please give our sisters the gifts they need this year: strength, hope and healing.

Knowing that you’re on their side gives our sisters the strength they need to fight for the rights they deserve. And there's no greater gift than thatThank you again.
With deepest gratitude,
Yifat Susskind
Executive Director
