Two Ways to Support Hurricane Sandy Relief
Hurricane Sandy tore a path from Haiti to the east coast of the US—and through MADRE, you have a strong way to respond to the devastation in both places.
In Haiti, Hurricane Sandy destroyed the tents that were the only shelter for thousands of homeless earthquake survivors. Our partners at the women’s organization KOFAVIV told us that many are now struggling to make it with even less than they had before. What’s worse, the storm’s flooding is spreading cholera.
And as last week’s snowstorm blew through the Northeast, we worried about all the people who survived Hurricane Sandy but are now left without heat.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Donate to MADRE’s Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund: We’re working with KOFAVIV, our local partners in Haiti, to bring crucial resources—like food, water, medical care and shelter— directly to the women and families most in need. Click here to support our emergency relief.
Help MADRE bring vital materials to shelters: Here at the MADRE office in New York, we are coordinating donations to local shelters. The items most needed are:
- Cleaning supplies, trash bags, disposable dishes and utensils, flashlights, candles, batteries, non-perishable food, shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, over-the-counter medications, feminine sanitary napkins and tampons, first aid supplies, blankets, coats, gloves, boots, hats, scarves. (Please note that we cannot accept other clothing items.)
You can drop off or mail your donations to: MADRE / Attn: Helping Hands / 121 West 27th Street, Suite 301 / New York, NY 10001.
