Protect Women and Girls from Trafficking
All around the world, sex traffickers prey on vulnerable women and girls. They need your help.
Your gift will help young survivors of trafficking in Nicaragua receive the medical and psychological care they need to heal from the trauma they’ve endured.
When Typhoon Haiyan swept the Philippines, killing over 6,000 people and leaving many more homeless, MADRE was fast on the scene. You helped us provide immediate emergency care to women and their families devastated by the storm.
Amid all the relief efforts, something much more insidious was lurking in the midst — sex traffickers ready to take advantage of women and girls made vulnerable by the storm.
This terrible exploitation is not just happening in active disaster and war zones: it’s expanding all over the world wherever poverty and desperation exists.
To address a problem of this magnitude, we need your special help today. We need to raise $35,000 by July 31 to meet the immediate needs of trafficking survivors and protect women and girls from brutal exploitation. Please say you’ll help us. Make a tax-deductible gift today.
That’s why, with your help, MADRE sends emergency disaster relief to local women’s groups. They provide aid, food and shelter to women in danger, meeting their emergency needs and creating a community of support — a vital guard against predatory traffickers.
Let me give you a recent example of what we’re up against. Just last month, I got a panicked call from Rose Cunningham, our partner in Nicaragua.
I told Rose that MADRE would help. And now I’m asking you. “Karina”, a young Indigenous Miskito girl from Rose’s community, was kidnapped by narco-traffickers. They held her hostage for a few days. Karina was so brutally attacked, that she could barely walk for weeks afterwards. And she requires reconstructive surgery in order for her to fully recover.
And that’s not all you’ll help us accomplish.
In Iraq, where sex trafficking has grown worse since the US invasion of 2003, our partners at the Organization of Women’s Freedom in Iraq (OWFI) are risking their lives to help women who have been trafficked into prostitution rings escape from brothels.
By giving you will support education, human rights training and dialogue between community elders, our partner group and the local police on the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls to help build a stronger, safer community.
Your gift today will help fuel their bravery and provide transportation, shelter, food and medical care to women who are escaping trafficking rings.
In Nicaragua, Iraq and wherever MADRE works to protect women and girls from trafficking, we create programs to both meet immediate needs and advance human rights. That’s the MADRE difference and we couldn’t do it without your support.
Please say you’ll be there for these women and girls. Make a generous gift today.
