You can find our special updates to Friends of Malya here and here, and a special update, Malya's story in her own words, here! Join today to be the first to get news from Malya and KOFAVIV.

As you may have heard, we’ve had some excitement at MADRE. Our partner Malya has been named a 2012 CNN Hero! This is a huge honor for her and a testament to the powerful work that she does at the KOFAVIV Women’s Center with rape survivors in Haiti—work that you’ve helped propel.

If Malya wins the top honor and is named CNN's 2012 Hero of the Year, she will receive $250,000 to further KOFAVIV's life-saving work. Can you imagine what a difference that would make? It will help keep the doors of the Women’s Center open!

I want to make sure that women and girls continue to have a loving place where they can receive urgent care and counseling after they’ve been raped.

That’s why I’m inviting you to be part of the Friends of Malya. Would you help advance Malya’s candidacy by asking your friends and family to vote? Having your voice in our call to support Malya would make a huge difference. Each vote until the November 28 deadline brings Malya and KOFAVIV one step closer to the award and to guaranteeing vital support for rape survivors in Haiti.

I know you’re super busy, so if you’re able to commit to being a Friend of Malya for the next two months, the MADRE staff will make it easy. Once a week, we’ll provide you with a sample message or a short video that you can edit or share instantly with friends, family and colleagues online.

Please let me know if Malya can count on your support, by clicking here.

More than anything, I would love to see CNN’s Hero of the Year in 2012 be the woman who has made ending rape her life’s work. I know that work is so important to all of us.
