“Thank God for the connection to the sisterhood and the feminist activists during [the Taliban overthrow of the government]. Because of their solidarity, I received help.”

Jamila’s activism:

Jamila has dedicated over 25 years of her life to giving the women of Afghanistan access to education.

As the founder and executive director of the Noor Educational and Capacity Development Organization, she supports women and girls in Afghanistan, raising awareness of domestic violence, a lack of access to education, and other issues faced by women and girls in the country. The group also provides funding to human rights defenders, journalists, and advocates.

She is also an executive member of the Afghan Women’s Network, vice president of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, and president of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom in Afghanistan.

In 2022, Jamila won the prestigious Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity in recognition of her efforts to support the advancement of women and peace in Afghanistan.
