Youth

The rights of children and youth are routinely violated. In situations of armed conflict, they are particularly vulnerable to exploitation, physical and sexual abuse, hunger and poor health. Many are coerced into becoming child soldiers. Around the world, youth are denied information about their sexual rights and reproductive rights and prevented from participating in decision-making processes that impact their lives.

MADRE promotes the rights of children and youth through cultural programs and educational workshops, health services, literacy programs and trauma counseling. MADRE also encourages youth to play a more active role in their communities and has taken a leadership role in creating opportunities for youth to advocate for their rights in the international human rights arena.
