Promising Democracy, Imposing Theocracy: Gender-Based Violence and the US War on Iraq

Release Event

On March 6, 2007, MADRE released Promising Democracy, Imposing Theocracy: Gender-Based Violence and the US War on Iraq, a groundbreaking report on the incidence, causes, and legalization of gender-based violence in Iraq since the US-led invasion.

To release the report, Vivian Stromberg, MADRE Executive Director, joined Yifat Susskind, MADRE Communications Director, and Houzan Mahmoud, International Representative of the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq for a press conference, followed by a panel featuring Ms. Susskind, Ms. Mahmoud, Jennie Green, Center for Constitutional Rights, and Frida Berrigan, Arms Trade Resource Center (World Policy Institute).
